How To Copy A Layer Or Layer Group To Another Canvas In Gimp






You can copy a layer group easily by copying and pasting to different canvas in gimp but it will automatically flattened / merged as one single layer. How to copy a layer or layer group to another canvas in gimp. Sadly, this doesn't seem to work for any kind of complex layers, be they text, layer trees or layers with masks it all gets flattened this doesn't so much copy the layer, as copy the visible image to a new layer.

Since gimp-210, layer groups have a special layer mode: the pass through mode this mode exists only if a layer group is active when this mode is used instead of any other one, layers inside the layer group will behave as if they were a part of the layer stack, not belonging to the group. The canvas of gimp starts with one main layer. that is, any image you open in gimp is considered a base layer. so you can add new layers to an existing image or start from a blank layer..
